MELBOURNE (AFP) – England all-rounder Tim Bresnan is expected to be fit for next month’s World Cup, despite his tour of Australia being cut short by a calf injury.
A statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday confirmed Bresnan had been ruled out of the rest of the seven-match one-day series against Australia.
“Bresnan will return to the UK shortly to continue his rehabilitation and recovery and is expected to return to the England squad for next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup,” the statement said.
The statement also said tall young paceman Steve Finn would remain with the England squad for the rest of the series.
The 25-year-old Bresnan, who created a big impression in the latter part of the Ashes series, tore his calf muscle during Friday’s match against Australia at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
He batted with a runner during the England innings.
England batsman Kevin Pietersen joined Bresnan on the injured list, missing Sunday’s third ODI at the SCG due to a groin strain.
